On this paper, collecting 5 alpine plants (Altidude:3000-3500m) in Wushao mountain from August to October 2010, determinating content of phenol, evaluating of fermentation parameters and gas production on in vitro.5 alpine plants contain 2 herbages:Polygonum viviparum, Potentilla rosacea and 3 shrubs:Potentilla fruticosa, Spiraea alpine, Salix cupularis. The significances of total phenol and total tannins were analyzed, total fermentation gas, methane production,0-12h concentration of H2 and fermentation parameters were counted. The degradability of in vitro neutral detergent fiber and dry matter was measured. Relationships between total tannin and pH, NH3-N, TVFA, A/P, degradability, methane production,0-12h concentration of hydrogen were thought. The following results were obtained:1. Total phenol in October is lower than August and September(P<0.05). No discipline exists between August and September. The tendency of total tannins is similar with total phenol.2. The relationship between total tannins and pH was feeble positive(r=0.19). Negative correlation was found between total tannins and TVFA(r=-0.53). The correlation coefficient was 0.62 between total tannins and A/P. The relationship between total tannins and NH3-N was absence of correlation, however, NH3-N and content protein was positive correlation(r=0.54).3. The relationship between total tannins and IVDNDF was negative(r=-0.74), compare with oat straw, the difference value of IVDNDF was 25.78~67.53%.4. The negative correlation between total tannins and 0-48h CH4 was found and the repression range was 39.6-68.5% compare with control. The alpine plants containing abundant tannins reduce methane production; maybe the way of H2 formation is changed. The concentration of H2 was in contrast with total tannins(r=-0.41), in the range of 1-6uM, with the increase of concentration of H2, the 0-12h methane production raised too. Compare with control, the maximum repression was 97.4%.5. Alpine pants contain abundant tannins, which attributes to the special location of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, especially shrub. This study show tannin has potential to reduce methane production. It provided scientific evidence for achieve double goals:reduce methane production and improve productivity for grazing animals in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau through changing grazing management.
