The Effect of planting row distance and nitrogen rate on switchgrass were carried out from 2009 to 2010 at China Agricultural University Experimental Station, Daming County, Hebei Province. The research were focused on the plant spacing and fertilizer on the growth of Panicum virgatum, feed quality and value of energy. The main results are as follows:1. Effect of row distance and nitrogen rate on the growth of switchgrassDifferent treatment on the plant height and dry yeild has different affect in flowering time and heading time. In flowering time, A2B3(Row spacing of 60cm,fertilizer for the 225kg/hm2), A1B3(Row spacing of 20cm, fertilizer for the 225kg/hm2) combination are the highest plant heights,were 75.94cm,72.72cm; In heading time, A2B3(Row spacing of 60cm,fertilizer for the 225kg/hm2), A1B2 (Row spacing of 20cm, fertilizer for the 150kg/hm2) combination are the highest plant heights,were 107.51cm, 100.75cm. A1B3(Row spacing of 20cm,fertilizer for the 225kg/hm2), A2B3 (Row spacing of 60cm, fertilizer for the 225kg/hm2) combination are the highest dry yields,were 5615.31 kg/hm2, 4973.11 kg/hm2.2. Effect of row distance and nitrogen rate on feed quality of switchgrassDifferent treatment on the crude protein, NDF and ADF has different affect in flowering time. A1B3(Row spacing of 20cm,fertilizer for the 225kg/hm2), A2B3(Row spacing of 60cm, fertilizer for the 225kg/hm2) combination's crude protein content are the heighest,were 12.81%,12.79%. A2B2(Row spacing of 60cm,fertilizer for the 150kg/hm2), A1B1(Row spacing of 20cm, fertilizer for the 0kg/hm2) combination's NDF content are the lowest, were 66.69%,67.27%.A2B2 (Row spacing of 60cm,fertilizer for the 150kg/hm2), A2B1(Row spacing of 60cm, fertilizer for the 0kg/hm2) combination's ADF content are the lowest,were 41.24%,41.57%.On the respect of the feed quality.According to the above indicators, When switchgrass used as feed,it can be used in flowering time. A2B3, A2B3 combination are better to the growth and crude protein content of switchgrass; If you need lower NDF and ADF content ,you also can use A2B2 combination, but the A2B2 combination of both yield and crude protein content of the performance are general.3. Effect of row distance and nitrogen rate on energy index of switchgrassDifferent treatment on the ash content, carbon content, net photosynthetic rate and soil organic matter content has affect in heading time. A1B1 (row spacing 20cm, fertilizer for the 0kg/hm2) combination's ash content is the lowest,is 5.8%.A1B3 (row spacing 20cm, fertilization is 225kg/hm2) combination's carbon content is the heighst,is 43.52%.A2B3 (row spacing 60cm, fertilizer for the 225kg/hm2) combination's net photosynthetic rate is the heighst,is 12.97μmol﹒m-2﹒s-1. Effect on shallow soil carbon sequestration is obvious in first year.Different treatment combinations have little effect on heat value content.On the respect of the energy sector.we should select the combinations of heigher calorific value and lower ash content, because of the calorific value is not acceptde the impact of row spacing and fertilizer application, we could choose the combinations of lower ash content (A1B1). But considering the height, dry yeild and carbon sequestration effect, suggested to use the combination of A1B3, A2B3.4. The effect of carbon sequestrationIntegrated the deta of carbon content, heat value, net photosynthesis rate, plant soil organic matter content before and after,analyzed the carbon sequestration effects of switchgrass, All indicators are higher than the normal crop, Shows switchgrass is not only an excellent energy plants but also contribute to carbon sequestration.
