In order to endow the Triploid of Populus tomentosa wood with high performances, phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin and urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin in cooperation with nano-SiO2, styrene and epoxy chloropropane in cooperation with maleic anhydride were used to impregnate the Triploid of Populus tomentosa wood followed by heating. The dimensional stability, the hardness, flame resistance and some other properties of treated wood were measured. SEM micrographs were used to analysis the micro-structure of the treated wood.It was shown by the results of the study that PF resins and UF resin with nano-SiO2 suspending in improved the dimensional stability and the hardness of wood. And nano-SiO2 played an obvious positive role in the modification of dimensional stability and hardness of wood but no effect on flame resistance of wood. PF resin was more efficient to improve the dimensional stability and hardness of wood than UF resin.Styrene and epoxy chloropropane in cooperation with maleic anhydride endowed wood with a higher dimensional stability and hardness. But they made little differences between the flame resistance of treated wood and that of untreated wood. The SEM photos showed that there was polymer in the cell of wood treated by styrene and maleic anhydride but nothing in the cell of wood treated by epoxy chloropropane and maleic anhydride.
