Based on previous works, the study did intercrossing, then going on primary selecting, second selecting and final selecting on hybrid progeny. At last, the new early mature pear cultivars—Eli 1 and Eli 2—were breed successfully, through cultivars comparative test, small area test and regional test. Two cultivars were certified by Hubei Crop Cultivar Certification Committee in 2002.Then we did research in the technology of those cultivars 'culturing, and went on work of massive popularization from Hubei to all of the China.Main characters of Eli 1 are as follows. Fruit shape: nearly round, regular. Size: individual fruit 230g, the largest 493.5g. Skin: green, with little lustre of wax. The fruit spots small, number moderately more, and distributing shallowly. Appearance: smooth, clean, beautiful. Pulp white, tenuous, crisp, tender, much juicy, stone cells fewer, sweet. TSS 10.5~12.1%, total sugar 7.88%, citric acid 0.16%, Vit.C 1.39mg/kg. Fruit core: small, close, with 2.69cm diameter. Storability: good. At the room temperature, percentage of good fruit was 94.83% stored in the paper box after 10d, and after 15d, the percentage was 91.26%. The storage life is 19d. Quality of Eli 1 pear comes up to the medium upper grade.Fruits of Eli 2 pear mature earlier, with beautiful appearance, excellent quality. Fruit weight 200g, the largest 330g. Shape: regular. Pericarp: thin, base color green, surface yellow-green owning little lustre of wax. Spots: medium big and moderately many. Skin: smooth, clean. Pulp: white, tenuous, crisp, tender, juicy, sweet and little fragrant. Stone cells: little. TSS 12.0—14.7%, total sugar 7.76%, citric acid 0.16%, and Vit.C 1.35mg/kg. Quality: upper. Core: very small and close, with smaller diameter than 1/3 fruit diameter. Storable life: long. Shelf life: long, and the span of storage about 18d at the room temperature. TSS: exceeding that of Zaosu pear 21.3% and Jinshui 2 pear 13.8%, respectively. The total sugar: exceeding theirs, 38.0% and 20.4%, respectively. The taste and flavour : thicker than Jinshui 2 pear and Zaosu pear significantly.The study suggests the key cultivation techniques of pear Eli 1 and pear Eli 2.1. Establishing orchard in high level.
