With the increasing amount of export agricultural by–products, epidemic situation of agricultural by–products become more and more complexity. The region along the Yangtse River, Jiangsu Province, China, is an important agricultural by–products producing base and the exportation of agricultural by–products holds an important economic status. In order to provide an scientific basis and technology support to local agricultural by–products export quarantine, an investigation was carried out on the species of stored insects of export agricultural by–products from 2003 to 2005 in the region. The quarantine significance of different stored insects and the insect community structure characteristics of five stored export products were analyzed, besides, a study was conducted on the ecology of Dermestes maculatus Degeer in the laboratory. The main results were as follows.1. The ordinary and systematic measures were used to investigate stored insect species on export products, such as Willow, Brush, Feather, Leather, Woodwork, grain, coconut funicle, lotus leaf etc., in the finished product, transferring, material reserve and processing storages of the export industries. The investigation collected total about 1800 insect specimens, 130 species belonging to 51 families, 9 orders, 2 classes were identified. Among them, 105 species (40 families, 6 orders, 1 classes) were pests and 25 species (10 families, 5 orders, 2 classes) were natural enemies. In addition, two new record species, Caulophilus oryzae (Gyllenhal) and Bruchus dentipes (Baudi), were found.2. 38 species (23 families, 2 orders) of stored insects in export Woodwork products, 34 species (22families, 3 orders) of stored insects in export Willow products, 44 species (24 families, 4 orders) of stored insects in export Leather products, 35 species (20 families, 4 orders) of stored insects in export Feather products and 39 species (26 families, 3 orders) of stored insects in export Brush products, were investigated.3. Selective Index (I) and Aptness Index (P), for the first time, were used to analyze the quarantine significance of stored insects species on 5 kinds of export agricultural by–products along the region of the Yangtse River, Jiangsu Province. The stored insects...
