This experimentation studied the soil temperature, soil moisture, effects of irrigation and the yield in the whole growth period of broccoli irrigated under surge flow furrow irrigation in Zhangye city. The main results were as follows:1. The effects of soil density and compositions of soil were mainly changed in upper layer (0~5cm) under the surge flow irrigation. And the undersurface phenomenon was as well as the continuous irrigation. So it can form soil sealing between 0~5cm on the surface, which has not affected the growth of broccoli.2. Surge flow irrigation can increase soil temperature obviously with the soil depth of 5~25cm, and the average soil temperature under N1s, N2s and N3s were 0.1,0.7 and 1.1℃higher than continuous irrigation.3. Surge flow irrigation can change the surface soil structure, so the mean advancing velocity in total supply time, the irrigation uniform coefficient and the water use efficiency were increased. Thus the water consumption with N1s, N2s and N3s were decreased by 9.47mm, 31.28mm and 41.39mm compared with continuous irrigation respectively. Significances(p<0.05)occurred among the treatments in the water consumption.4. According to the results of experiment, surge flow irrigation can save water by 10~20% than continuous irrigation. Under the conditions of the same irrigation time, flow rate and irrigation frequency among different treatments water saving efficiency were relate to circulation rate. Along with the circulation rate changing from 1/2 to 1/4, water saving efficiency was increased. The results showed that the surge flow irrigation can increase water efficiency obviously than continuous irrigation.5.
