The burrowing nematode (Radopholus similis Throne 1949) is considered to be among the 10 most damaging plant-parasitic nematodes worldwide. The infection of the nematode causes many diseases such as heavy root rotting, toppling disease, yellowing of fronds, blackhead and so on. R. similis has spread to most of the banana-planting countries, but there is no report in China. Many countries including China rank it as the important quarantine nematodes. Recently, many ports and customs of China have captured this nematode, and once it spread to countrywide, it will make severe economic loss. So, the rapid diagnosis and the suitable establishment areas prediction of this nematode are of great importance. In this study, we predicted the suitable establishment areas of R.similis, and did some research on its rapid molecular identification. We predicted the suitable establishment areas of R. similis using CLIMEX and Arcview GIS's function of spatial interpolating analysis, and took host influence on the distribution of Rsimilis into account by using Arcview GIS's superposition function. And took average annual temperature as an important index to predict the suitable establishment areas of R. similis. The conclusion integrated the two parts of results. The integrated analysis results showed that Yunnan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan were the suitable establishment areas of R. similis. The result is of guidance significance of R.similis' prevention.R.similis and Prathlenchus are similar in morphology. It is difficult to distinguish them by traditional identification. We established the molecular identification method to distinguish R.similis from Prathlenchus spp. using the rDNA-ITS-PCR techenique. The method is practically important for quarantine.
