Acorus macrospadiceus FN. Wei is an herbage species of Araceae, used in folk flavorings. The effectively active components of it mainly exist in essential oil. The following studies of A. macrospadiceus from Shaoyang, Hunan were carried out. The structure of root, stem, leaves and oil cells of it was investigated systematically by using wax section. And the distribution of oil cells in the different organ of it was studied. And then the essential oil of fresh leaves, dried leaves, withered leaves, fresh stems and dried stems was extracted. In addition, the check of GC-MS and compare and analysis of its components was carried out. Moreover, the antioxidant activities of essential oil; the influences of pure powder of A. macrospadiceus on the growth performance, slaughter performance and the viscera index of broilers were studied. The conclusions of the studies were as follows:Anatomical studies of A. macrospadiceus shows: The structure of nutrient organs has the characteristic of phreatophytes. The primary structure of A macrospadiceus root consists of epidermis cortex and stele, there are no root hairs on its single layer epidermis, which consists of flat cells densly arrayed without intercellular spaces. Cortex consists of exodermis, interodermis and endodermis. There are one or two layers of elongated cells at the exodermis. These cells have the thickening, suberizing or lignifying of the walls, which can substitute epidermis for protection. Casparian strips of endodermis is obviously observed, and some cell walls have thickened except the outer tangential ones. A few oil cells distributed within the outer interodermis. The primary structure of A. macrospadiceus stem consists of epidermis ground tissue and vascular bundles. The outermost surface of the stem is the epidermis encrusted with cutin. Interior to the epidermis is the ground tissue composed of parenchyma and sclerenchyma, large cortical air chamber, some cortex cells contain much starch granule and large crystals of calcium oxalate. Vascular bundles are collateral closed bundle, distributing in the ground tissue. The middle vascular bundles connected by sclerenchyma cells are arranged in one concentric ring, though some other vascular bundles not. Vascular bundles sheath, which consist of sclerenchyma and parenchyma, has some crystals of calcium oxalate continuously...
