The effect of algae on population dynamics of rotifer (Brachionus calyciflorus) was studied at the temperature of 28±1℃, under the intensity of illumination 200~250lx, illumination period L :D= 12 :12, at the same biomass of algae. Rotifers were cultured by feeding on Chlorella pyrenodeosa(C.p), Anabaena flos-aquae(A.f), Chlamyclomoras sajao(C.s) and any both mixtures(wet weighty) of them at proportion 3:1, 1:1, 1:3 using population accumulative culture method. The results showed that differences of population density of rotifer feeding on C.p, A.f and C.s under different concentration were very significant (p<0.01), significant (p<0.05) and not significant (p>0.05) respectively. Moreover, cultivation effect of rotifer feeding on the mixture of C.p and A.f under 3 proportion was superior to (p<0.05) that of the corresponding single alga. When fed on the mixture containing C.s, rotifers were a little superior to (p>0.05) those fed on single C.s in population density, but significantly inferior to (p<0.01) those fed on single C.p and A.f respectively. Therefore, C.s is not suitable for developing food for rotifers. The study also indicates that C.p is the best for the growth of the rotifer among the three algae species, and the mixture of C.p and A.f is more suitable for cultivating rotifers than single C.p, which can offer reference for developing food of rotifers. The effect of food quality on the life history characteristics of Brachionus calyciflorus was studied at the same experimental condition above. Rotifers were cultured individually and fed on C.p , A.f, C.s and the mixtures(wet weighty) between A.f and C.p at proportion 3:1 and 1:3. There were no significant difference of food type on duration of embryo development time(p>0.05). The rotifers fed on C.p had the shortest pre-reproductive period and duration of generation, the highest total number of eggs, reproduction rate, intrinsic rate of population and net reproduction rate. And A.f was...
