The exploitation and application of wild plants, Bramble(Rubus L.), as the 3rd new fruit resource, caused great attention in the world nowadays. The abundant of wild Rubus L. distribute extensively around the world, but there're big variations between many varieties and/or species, as well in the morphologic characteristics between the same varieties. Therefore, the investigation of germplasm resource, potential application, selection and domestication or introduction of good quality varieties of Rubus L. become the main research work in recent years in China.1. 32 species and 5 varieties of Rubus L.in Henan Province were found after the field investigation, specimen collection, classification and identification. Almost all of them distributed in the mountainous areas and hills. 29 species and varieties located in Funiu Mountain, 26 in Dabie Mountain, 12 in Tongbai mountain and only 5 in Taihang mountain. Three distribution patterns such as the plot shape, clump shape or scattered distribution were found. The index table of Rubus L. species was established based on the study of the classification, distribution, economic value, biological and ecological characteristics.2. The results of analysis of nutrient compositions indicated that 35 species and varieties were edible and 24 could be used as traditional Chinese medicine. The highest sugar content of R.xanthocarpus Bureau et Franch was 13.52%, some species had a relatively higher content of Vitamin (especially Ve ) and SOD(superoxide dismutase, the biological substance) in fruits. For example, Vitamin E content of R.bifLorus Buch-Ham was 135.35μg/g, SOD content of Rxockburnianus Hemsl reached 2151.22U/g. The contents of the other nutrients such as protein, amino acid and minerals were higher than that of the widely cultivated fruits such as apple and strawberry et al. So there was a big potential value of exploitation and application of Rubus L.3. The research result s indicated that R.hirsutus Thunb, R.xanthocarpus Bureau et Franch, Rxhingii Hu and R.bifLorus were suitable to be cultivated as new fruit resources in Henan Province. The purpose of the project is wished to promote the exploitation and application of Rubus L. wild resources in Henan Province..
