Restorable ability of japonica male sterile lines with iso-nuclear allo-cytoplasm to restorers of indica and japonica in rice (Oryza sativa L.) was studied by using the 141 combinations made from the iso-nuclear allo-plasm male sterile lines: BT-liuqianxin A ,HL-liuqianxin A, ID-liuqianxin A, WA-liuqianxin A, their maintainer lines liuqianxin B and 15 indica restorer lines , 17 japonica restorer lines. The results were the fellows: 1. The seed setting rate of hybrids between Liuqianxin R and Liuqianxin B, BT-liuqianxin A,HL-liuqianxin A, ID-liuqianxin A and WA-liuqianxin A was 84%, 78%, 46%, 4%,4%. Liuqianxin R which contain Rf-1 could restore BT-liuqianxin A, but could not restore HL-liuqianxin A, ID-liuqianxin A and WA-liuqianxin A. It indicated that the same restorer gene could not restore all type CMS in the same nuclear. 2. The seed setting rate of hybrids between liuqianxin B and 16 japonica restorer lines ranged from 68%to 88%, averaging 79%. There was no sterility in hybrids between japonica restorer lines and liuqianxin B. The seed setting rate of hybrids between BT-liuqianxin A and the 16 restorer lines ranged from 16%to 86%, averaging 61%. 10 out of 14 restorer lines which contain Rf-1 could restore BT-liuqianxin Aand 3 restorer lines could partly restore BT-liuqianxin A. It suggests that under identical cytoplasm, the restoring ability of the same restorer gene was different in different nuclear. The seed setting rate of hybrids between HL-liuqianxin A and 16 japonica restorer lines ranged from 4%to 63%, averaging was 32%. R187 could restore HL-liuqianxin A normally. The seed setting rate was l%-53% in hybrids of the japonica restorers crossed with ID-liuqianxin A and l%-39% with WA-liuqianxin A. The japonica restorer lines could not restore ID-liuqianxin A and WA-liuqianxin A.The seed setting rate of hybrids between indica restorer lines and BT-liuqianxin A,HL-liuqianxin A, ID-liuqianxin A, WA-liuqianxin Awas 2%-55%, 0%-47%, 7%-54%, 1%-52%,averaging 29%, 20%, 31% and 11% respectively.
