The main purpose of this research is to analyse the impact of the soil water vertical movement on the soil thermal properties over the Naqu area. Based on the soil temperature and moisture data collected at eight SMTMS sites downloading from GAME/Tibet web site from August 17,1997 to September 1,1998, the temperatures of 0.2m depth are modeled with the methods of thermal conduction alone and coupled thermal conduction and convection transfer. We compare these two methods above, calculate the thermal diffusivity and the liquid water flux density with the method of coupled thermal conduction and convection transfer at the depths 0.04m to 0.2m in this area, and analyse the distribution of calculating results and compare them with the soil volumetric water contents. It is shown that the method of coupled thermal conduction and convection transfer can make a more reasonable estimate of soil temperature. Obviously, the soil water vertical movement is very necessary for the study on the soil properties. The thermal diffusivity and the liquid water flux density are two important physical variables when analysis soil thermal properties. The logarithmic attenuations of soil temperature amplitude and the phase shifts of soil temperature represent the ability of soil transferring heat and affect the calculating results of the soil thermal diffusivity and the liquid water flux density, we determine...
