Background: Golden retrievers'provenance is Scotland. Nowadays it is fashionable all over the world. They are both gentle and friendly, clever and dexterity, graceful and compliant. Golden retrievers is one of excellent species to become guide dogs.Guide dogs are the dogs for guiding blind person. It is the partner, guidance of the people who have a bad visual acuity. It is also the eyes of the blind which are lost and found again. It is a main method to improve the blind's life condition and elevate the blind's quality of life. Recently, there are more than 60 country which have guide dogs and 100 guide dog association.,more than 2000 guide dogs are serving for the blind. The breeding and training for guide dogs is very popular abroad, but in our country there is no a really guide dog and we are strange for the enterprise. In our country the number of disabled person is 82,960,000.Among it the bad vision people is 12,330,000.The requirement of the guide dog is extremely great, but the need has never been satisfied. With the establishment of the China Guide Dogs Training Center DaLian which is the first agency of mainland, in May 2006,our guide dog enterprise began formally and the research is imperative.Physiology, biochemistry, growth etc. parameter can reflect animal organism condition ,which is important indication in biology, animal ethology, animal medical science domains . We make a systematical measurement to golden retrievers'parameter of physiology, biochemistry, growth first time .Intending to provid elementary data and theoretical reference for the research of biology characters, growth and metabolism, breed and selection, heredity and evolution, training and application of guide dogs .Objective: Provide theoretical reference for training guide dogs by determining the data : 6-12-month golden retrievers'normal physiology and biochemistry, thegrowth of puppy .Methods:Clinical examination methods were used to determine the hematology, blood biochemistry and respiration rate, blood pressure, body temperature , arterial pulse in 8 adult golden retrievers; Body weight , body length , tail length , body height , belly and chest were measured in 9 puppy Golden Retriever , from birth to 40days.Results: Average value and standard deviation (S.D.)of all data were obtained including the hematology(WBC,RBC,HGB,HCT,MCV,MCH,MCHC,PLT,P-LCR,LYMPH#,RDW-SD,RDW-CV,PDW,MPV,LYMPH%),blood biochemistry(ALT,AST,AS/AL,TP,ALB,GLB,A/G,AKP,TBIL,CHO,CK,UREA,CREA,GLU,LDH) and respiration rate, blood pressure, body temperature , arterial pulse in 8 2-3-month golden retrievers. The data of respiration rate, body temperature in morning are lower than the data in afternoon , and blood pressure, arterial pulse in morning are higher than the data in afternoon but there are no significant difference between them. Body weight, body length, tail length, belly and chest were measured in 9 puppy Golden Retriever , from birth to 40days. With statistic analysis and drawing , the growth indices of Body weight, body length, tail length, and chest in first 20 days was almost the same between male and female, afterwards growth rate of male was higher than female. Growth indices of female and male suggested their simultaneous development. In addition,we refer and sort corresponding data of Beagle dogs, which have been researched generally in biology, medicine, drug etc. Conclusion: The data of hematology, blood biochemistry and respiration rate, blood pressure, body temperature, arterial pulse in adult golden retrievers are very important for raising and training guide dogs in the future. The data of body weight, body length , tail length, belly and chest which were measured in 9 puppy Golden Retriever are essential for breeding guide dogs.
