Investigation for recent silk production and the factors affecting the quality of silkproduces in Nanyang city was conducted. The main obstacles affecting cocoon qualitywere concluded as these 4 sections: marketing, producing, processing, and preserving.Cocoon marketing chaos in Nanyang city was the first factor affecting the qualityof silk produces. It did not execute the best quality best price policy in selling andbuying the cocoon. So it greatly harmed the enthusiasm of raising the quality of cocoonfor the most silkworm farmers.Problems in the process of raising silkworm were the main factors in affecting thequality of cocoon. There were several points existing problems in raising silkworm,such as: disease, leaf quality of mulberry tree, bad manners in raising junior and seniorsilkworms and cocooning. The epidemic of disease was the result of incomplete sterileand polluting of mulberry tree and the poor management of raising room. Bad leafquality was mainly due to the aging the mulberry tree and poor planting. The practice ofraising junior silkworm collectively was in a low percentage. Raising senior silkwormwas not in a scientific way. And the good cocooning tools was not widely adopted. Thetemperature and humidity were not properly controlled. These were the main reasons ofpoor quality for cocoon producing.There were also several factors in processing of cocoon influencing the quality ofsilk produces. The were some problems in high temperature drying and preservation.The preservation was not properly sterilized, and insects and mousse existing were otherserious problems affecting the quality.According the problems underlying the cocoon yield and quality from the investigation and experience from other districts and abroad, we proposed somesuggestions in raising the quality of silk produces in Nanyang city.Firstly, it is necessary for government to stabilize the market, develop the model ofcompany + bases + peasant, and promote the industrialization. It is necessary toestablish the well-known brand, to strengthen the scientific management of mulberrytree planting and silkworm raising. And it needs urgently in changing the fresh to drycocoon buying and selling.Secondly, it needs various measures to raise the quality of cocoon. It is strictlynecessary to sterile before, with and after raising process. Prevention of pollutingmulberry tree is also of importance. The management of mulberry tree with properfertilizing, irrigating, and herbicizing is the main factor to guarantee the quality ofleaves. It is need to extend the practice of quality and less laboring silkworm raisingtechnique, and to extend using of square cocooning tools, and also to control thetemperature and humidity in cocooning period.Thirdly, in buying and selling phase, it needs to establish a high quality managingteam, strictly executing the best quality best price policy. Adapting the automatic dryingmachines 73-1 and 82-1 is recommended in dry process.Lastly, it needs to create the preservation site for the cocoon preservation, inpreventing from insects and mouse.
