Insect communities (include underground insects) were investigated on different turf types in Beijing area, and the composition of insect communities was summarized. The community features, such as the similarity and seasonal dynamics of insect communities, were analyzed, composition and dynamics of the functional groups were also researched. In addition, underground pest communities were studied. The results showed that insect communities were constituted mainly by Diptera, Hymenoptera,Coleoptera and Hemiptera, while the individual number of Diptera,Homoptera, Hemiptera and Hymenoptera were absolutely dominant. Totally 55174 arthropods were collected, among them 45913 individuals of insect belonging to 116 families within 14 orders, 8925 individuals of Acarina, and 336 individuals of spiders. Most of individual number belong to Acarina,Miridae,Aphididae, Cicadellidae and Thripidae. The diversity index of insect communities of Fescue arundinacea Shreb. in ShiJiTan was the highest, while Buchloe|¨ dactyloides in residence was the lowest, and the difference was significant between roadside Poa pratensis L. and other turfs. By using principal component analysis, turfs insect communities can be divided into three types. Cluster analysis indicated that insect communities were similar in different turf types which were under similar environment. Diversity index of insect community was higher at the beginning of summer and autumn than that at other time. The natural enemy community had more groups and higher diversity than that of pest community, but the individual number of enemy community was distinctly fewer than pest community. The diversity of natural enemy in less managed grassland was higher than in carefully managed grassland. The dominant groups of pest and natural enemy varied with seasons. Grubs and beetles were the main underground pests of turfs, and the damage was serious in August and September. Grubs was the most harmful pest in schoolyard grassland.
