Daya Bay is one of the most important estuaries for large-scale cage culture inthe eastern of South China Sea. The rapid development of mariculture resulted in thedepravation of ecological status. Developing a method for counting the number ofseawater fungi, we investigated the spatial and temporal distribution of fungi andrelation between fungi and nutrients from September 2006 to May 2007. This studywill give scientific data of studying environment protection of cage culture inGuangdong Province.Seawater was sampled one time every two month to investigate chemical andphysical elements of water 3 stations in area of cage culture and 3 stations incomparison area were set. The result showed that the numbers of fungi in the cageculture area were 286 cell/mL-923cell/mL, which were more than 57.9% those in thecomparison area of 88 cell/mL-426cell/mL. The seasonal variation of the fungi wasobviously, and the numbers of fungi were the most in autumn, while those were atleast in winter. The results also showed that the number of fungi in the area of cage culture haspositive correlations with temperature(r=0.712, p<0.01), amino nitrogen(r=0.720, p<0.01), nitric acid(r=0.789, p<0.01), nitrogen nitrous acid(r=0.629, p<0.01) andphosphate (r=0.749, p<0.01), While the numbers of fungi has a negative correlationwith oxygen (r=-0.831, p<0.01). The number of fungi in the comparison area ofpositively correlated with temperature(r=0.707, p<0.01), nitric acid(r=0.664, p<0.05), and phosphate(r=0.617, p<0.05). The fungi adapted to the environment ofpH of 5~11.
