The difference of adaptation of the warm and cool season turfgrasses was researched and the geographic distribution of transition zone was simulated by GIS(Geographic Information System) technology. Besides, overseeding technique, which is commonly used for planting evergreen turf on golf courses under transition zone conditions, was studied by taking series of experiments in Chengdu, south-west China. The results as following:1. The GIS spatial database of suitable days of some commonly used turfgrass. The days that suitable for turfgrass growth (warm season turfgrass) and not suitable for turfgrass growth (cool season turfgrass) at any location in China can be inquired, so that the outline of growth status of some turfgrass at the region can be acquired.2. Reclassif ied the adapatable zone of warm season turfgrass and cool season turfgrass into suitable zone, sub- suitable zone and not suitable zone separately, and established database.3. The spatial geographic distribution map of the transition zone for turfgrass growth was simulated, and the characteristics of transition zone were as the following:a) The turfgrass transition zone is a widely banding region that refers to part or whole of 16 provinces/cities, the area of transition zone is about 14. 25% of China territory.b) The northern boundary of the transition zone is approximately a line from southwest to northeast, while the south boundary is almost parallel with the latitude. This showed that the transition zone is affected by horizontal zonality in company with Vertical Zonality.4. The overseeding is effective in the transition zone. The turfgrass is better when the overseeding(ryegrass×zoysiagrass) is practiced with 10g(reygrass)/m~2(100kg/hm~2), with fertilizer of 10g/m~2(100kg/ hm~2) at the end of October in Chengdu region.5. Study on competition between the warm and cool season turfgrass in the overseeded turf community. The result shows that aggregation was the competition tactics of the warm and cool season turfgrass, and intensely competition occurs on the turn from the spring to the summer.6. The GIS technology combined with turf science and transition zone was for the first time in this paper. It will in favor of the turfgrass product by the theoretical and technical support for the future.
