Study On Sun And Nitrogen Supply Or Interaction On Photosynthesis Characters And Growth Of Hosta Plants

The Hosta plants are perennial herbs of Liliaceae, which are important landscape plants used for ground cover in the forest and have highly decorative values. The Hosta plants have been planted in Europe and America countries for many years. Being excellent shade tolerance,ornamental value of flowers and foliages,broadly adaptable. hostas have been broadly applied for landscape use in China in recent years. The interactive effects of growth nitrogen supply and light condition on four types of Hosta plants were determined under four kinds of nitrogen supply (0,0.5,1.5and2.5g/kg respectively) and four kinds of light condition (respectively 100%,50%,30%and 5% full sun) within pots. The morphological and physiological indexes,photosynthesis characters relation to growth and development were measured. The results indicate:For Hosta 'Blue Umberlla ',The most appropriate growth environment is 30% full sun and 1.5g/kg nitrogen supply;The most suitable growth environment for H.ensata F.Meakawa is 30% full sun and 1.5g/kg nitrogen supply;however,for H. 'Wogan Gold' and H. 'Francee ',The most appropriate growth environment is 50% full sun and 0.5g/kg nitrogen supply.Analysis of variance showed:the growth traits and photosynthesis characters of four types Hosta plants had correlation significantly withthe interactive effects of growth nitrogen supply and light condition,Nitrogen Supply and light condition,but inflorence numbers no effects.For Hosta 'Blue Umberlla' and H.ensata F.Meakawa, the effect of light level comparly higher than nitrogen supply;However,the effect of light level comparly lower than nitrogen supply on H. 'Wogan Gold' and H. 'Francee'. So in the actual landscape,light condition is the first factor for Hosta 'Blue Umberlla' and H.ensata F.Meakawa;nitrogen supply is the first factor for H.'Wogan Gold' and H. 'Francee'.According to the standard of the soil nutrient,in the actual cultivation Hosta 'Blue Umberlla',H. 'Wogan Gold' and H. 'Francee' need use nitrogen only in the barren medium,so they have the better ability of enduring leanness;However,the suitable medium for H.ensata F.Meakawa is fertile,so we should fertilize in the growth.From the results,The most appropriate growth environment for four types Hosta is weak light. Theauthor thinks the Hosta should plant under tree, back of building and weak light environment.Theory guides were provided of Hosta plants of their cultivation and maintain in gardens.
