Bentonite is a kind of clay mineral that is abundant in our country, the key component in which is montmorillonite, it has extensive application because of its 2:1 sandwich-like structure and the exchangeable cations between the layers. In this paper, the mineral properties and applications of montmorillonite were reviewed, the emphasis of which is the further study on the mineral properties of montmorillonite and choosen early-weaned pigs to carry out feeding experiment in order to research of the effect and mechanism of montmorillonite on the prevention of diarrhea.Organic matter-modified montmorillonite was prepared by pillaring 1631 into montmorillonite, ultra-fine powder montmorillonite was prepared through ultra-fine pulverization process. The adsorptive activity and mechanism of montmorillonite with different types(raw, organic matter-modified, ultra-fine pulverization) to heavy metal ion Cu2+,Pb2+ were investigated. The results of this study implicated as follows: (1) The removal rate was affected by pH significantly: with the increase of pH(pH2,pH4,pH6,pH8), the removal rate of raw montmorillonite, organic matter-modified montmorillonite and ultra-fine powder montmorillonite to Cu2+,Pb2+ were raised gradually(p<0.05). (2) Raw montmorillonite and its ultra-fine powder can adsorb Cu2+,Pb2+ anions in the water effectively, the removal rate for Cu2+,Pb2+ anions reached 65.71 %,82.40% and 77.42%,90.80% separately in treating 250ug/ml Cu2+,50ug/ml Pb2+, adsorption temperature at 39℃,adsorption time in 4 hour and pH at 6. (3) The removal rate was affected significantly by different types of montmorillonite, organic matter modification of montmorillonite can decrease its adsorption ability to Cu2+,Pb2+, ultra-fine pulverization of montmorillonite can increase its adsorption ability to Cu2+,Pb2+ : the removal rate of raw montmorillonite were always higher than modified montmorillonite's in treating pH at 2,4,6,8 (p<0.01), the removal rate of ultra-fine powder montomorillonite were always higher than raw montmorillonite's in treating pH at 2,4,6,8 (0.010.05). Addition of 2% montomorillonite or its ultra-fine powder decreased diarrhea incidence of weanling pigs significantly, as compared to control. Addition of 2% montomorillonite or its ultra-fine powder significantly increased ADFI of weanling pigs by 55.5% (p<0.01) and 50.6% (0.01
