Houttuynia cordata Thunb. which can be served as drug or food is one of multipurpose traditional Chinese crude drugs. It has very exploitable potential. Along with widespread implicated in edible and medicine, H. cordata Thunb resources was short of demand. In order to alleviate the pressure of supply and demand, H. cordata Thunb was cultivated in a large scale in many places. To guarantee the quality of yuxingcao medicine stably and controllable, we need to evaluate the quality of H. cordata Thunb resources urgently since the quality is highly affected by its habitat, including cultivation measures, and external environmental conditions such as solar radiation, temperature, soil, water etc. Therfore, we should take scientific measures to regulate the external environment conditions which can satisfy the requirements for its growth, in turn to obtain the excellent products with high yield and good quality. Accordingly, the present study was conducted to evaluate the quality of 11 H. cordata Thunb resources from the base of Sanai pharmacy company in Fujian for good agriculture practice (GAP) in the raw material production of traditional Chinese crude drugs (.H. cordata Thunb ),then based on the evaluated result,. 5 lines of H. cordata Thunb with good quality were selected and used to determine the effect of shading treatment on the biomass and its quality in the five lines of H. cordata Thunb. The results were summarized as follows.The result from the quality evaluation indicated that the quality of cultivated H. cordata Thunb was different from theirs genetic backgrounds and habitats. According to the multi-objective clustering(MBC) results, the three groups of I,II,III,were all in high biomass and methyl-n-nonyl-keton content. However the other groups performed poor in biomass and the content of methyl-n-nonyl-keton except the line of Guizhou 2. It was also found that the groups classified by genetic similarity were correlated with geographic distribution using ISSR marks to analysis the genetic diversity, the lines collected from the same or similar habitats were always grouped together. In the comparison to the results obtained from the two approaches of cluster analysis(MBC and ISSR), it was also indicated that the first three groups( I,II,III ), in which all lines performed higher biomass and better quality, appeared to be close in the genetic distance, This suggested that the quality of H. cordata Thunb mediated by its inherent factors in a greater extent, implying that it will be effective in the genetic selection Based on the results from the comprehensive evaluationof 11 H. cordata Thunb in the performance of biomass and quality traits, 5 lines of H. cordata Thunb resources, which are Jyyz, Jofd, Guizhou 1 , Jyhjd and Fuzh1, with higher biomass and better quality, were selected and recommended in present work.The result from the shading treatment indicated that, the chlorophyll content under shading treatment was obviously higher than that under no-shading treatment, but It was not correlated with its photosynthesis, which showed lower in shading condition. The present work also showed that shading treatment was more advantageous to the enhancement of biomass and the contents of upside methyl-n-nonyl-keton, soluble protein and Vitamin C in H. cordata Thunb, It showed that the total biomass in the medium and later growth stages under shading condition were enhanced by 54.2% and 139.8% respectively compared with the earlier stages, and the increment rate was two times higher than that under no-shading treatment. The detection also indicated that the content of upside methyl-n-nonyl-keton was also increased by 59.5% and 68.8% respectively in H. cordata Thunb at the stages under shading treatment, however it showed slightly enhancement in the medium stage under no-shading condition,then significantly enhanced by 54.8% at the later stage. The same tendency was found in soluble protein and Vitamin C contents under shading condition. But reverse was true under no-shading treatment. The present work confirmed that it might be was effective to promote the biomass and its quality of H. cordata Thunb through the regulation of shading techniques.Based on the performance of the agronomic traits in the five lines of H. cordata Thunb in response to shading treatment, the integrated analysis suggest ed that all the agronomic traits including biomass, effective pharmacy compone nts and the nutrition ingredients in the five lines under shading condition had t he same tendency in the changing pattern. Finally the author suggested and rec ommended the three lines, Jyyz, Guizhou 1 and Jyhjd with higher biomass, bet ter and stable quality performance after shading treatment as extended lines in GAP practice.
