Investigation Of The Epidemic Situiation Of Eperythrozoon Suis. In Shanghai Area

Eperythrozoon suis is a kind of wall-less bacteria and attaches on the surface of erythrocytes. Interaction of Eperythrozoon suis with the red blood cell ultimately leads cell deformation or even disruption. Such infection, therefore, can result into anemia, icterus and fever. But our knowledge about this organism remains largely incomplete.In this study, PCR detection method for eperythrozoonosis was established. The epidemic investigation of eperythrozoonosis was performed by using light microscope exam and PCR assay. 172 samples were selected randomly from 19 pig farms in Shanghai rural area. The results showed the high infection rate of 87.94%. Gender and age factors were not associated with the infection by statistic analysis. This study confirmed the prevalence of eperythrozoonosis in all of season though summer was always considered as its prevalent season.
