Plant type and rice quality of northern Japonica rice and their interrelations are studied based on the experiment of incomplete diallelled cross between 10 CMS lines and 10 restore lines. The main conclusions of this research are as follows:1. Coefficients of variation of different characters of plant type among parents are higher than those among their combinations. There are stronger variability for the parents on the plant-type indexes of the flag leaf length, the flag leaf angle, panicle number and the single panicle weight and for the combinations on the indexes of the flag leaf length, the flag leaf angle and the panicle length; The significant or extremely significant positive correlation exist on the indexes among the leaf length, leaf breadth, leaf angel themselves, and between plant height, stem length and upper second ,third leaf length, plant height and flag leaf, panicle number and leaf length. The significant or extremely significant correlation exist on the indexes between stem and leaf weight and flag leaf angle, upper second leaf angle; The principal component factors of plant type are plant height, flag leaf angel, flag leaf length and stem and leaf weight factor; Gene-type effect act the primary action on the indexes of panicle length, plant height, stem length, panicle weight. Plant height, stem length, stem and leaf weight are controlled by additive effects .Plant height, panicle length, and stem length present stronger stabilization; 4 types are divided into by cluster analysis, restore lines differ more types form CMS lines and there are bigger difference between the male and female parents on plant type.2.The female parents are better than male parents on the indexes of brown rice rate, milled rice rate, chalky rice rate, chalkiness, transparence. The male parents are better than female parents on the index of protein. The male parent is the restrain factor of the rice quality level; the variable coefficients of indexes of milled rice rate, chalky rice rate, chalkiness, gel consistency, rice transparence are high. The variable coefficients of the combinations developed by male parents is bigger than which developed by female parents on the all rice-quality indexes except chalky rice rate and chalkiness; The significant or extremely significant minus correlation exist on the indexes between brown rice rate , milled rice rate and grain length ,grain breadth, brown rice rate and transparence, milled rice rate and Amylose content ,head rice rate and Gelatinization temperature; The significant or extremely significant positive correlation exist on the indexes between brown rice rate ,milled rice rate and grain breadth ,protein content and milled rice rate, grain length and chalkiness; The extremely significant positive correlation exist on the indexes between grain length, grain length/breadth, gelatinization temperature, gel consistency and Amylose content, protein content and chalky rice rate ,chalkiness, Gelatinization temperature, amylose content; The milled rice rate. head rice rate, chalkiness and protein content are less controlled on heredity; The male effect is bigger than the female effect on the indexes of Grain length, chalky rice percentage, gelatinization temperature and contrarily on the index on grain breadth. Amylose content is controlled by the genetic and the circumstance effect together; The principal component factors of rice quality are grain type, appearance, machining and cooking factor;4 types are divided into by cluster analysis, The distinct borderline is not marked off between restore lines and CMS lines3. Single panicle weight make more influence on rice quality and Grain length have tightly correlation with plant type; The significant or extremely significant correlation exist on the indexes between Gelatinization temperature and flag leaf length ,leaf breadth ,plant height and protein content, Amylose content and leaf length ,plant height, panicle number; The extremely significant correlation exist on the indexes between plant type and rice quality; upper second leaf angle, single panicle weight, leaf length, plant height, leaf and stem weight have more influence on the plant type and Amylose content, grain length, brown rice rate, milled rice rate, rice transparence have more influence on the rice quality. Upper second leaf angle, plant height, single panicle weight have more influence on the rice quality and Amylose content, grain length, brown rice rate, rice transparence have more influence on plant type; The forecasting selection is credible if the plant type is selected firstly and the rice quality secondly.4. The synthetical selection index model is established. The character of the plant type with the better rice quality of hybrid japonica rice are broader flag leaf and upper second leaf, narrower upper third leaf angle, shorter plant height and stem length , longer panicle, more panicle number, lighter and single panicle weight.
