Combine compose of community, physical characteristics of soil, soilmicromorphological features, soil water potential and leaf water potential of six mainspecies to research and compare the root vertical distribution rules in the course ofthe restoring succession in degenerated community in inner Mongolia typical steppe. The basic mechanisms of root shallow-distribution in degenerated community hasbeen analyzed and studied preliminarily, this text get the following conclusions:1. The proportion of root biomass in every soil stratum and total root biomass isalmost stability.2. The interaction of each population in community happened at soil surfacelayer. Space of soil surface is affected frequently in degenerating and restoringsuccession stages in steppe community.3. In any status, the proportion of belowground biomass and total biomass incommunity is stability. That is the aboveground of plants miniaturized after long timeovergrazing, correspondingly, the belowground distributed shallow.4. Compactness layer, the soil stratum exist objectively, proved by soil bulkdensity, compactness and soil total porosity. It could interpret the mechanism and cause of collectivity behavior of root shallow-distribution in degenerated steppecommunity.5. The method of combine stereo light microscope and numeral camera toacquire soil micromorphological features, marked and take photo to root for itsdensity for research vertical distribution characters of community roots, are anotherefficacious method for study soil micromorphological and roots.6. The influence of livestock stomp is the important link for plant rootshallow-distribution.7. Changes of leaf water potential at each simple plot before and after irrigationindicate that depth of same population sucking roots doesn't coincidence in differentcommunity status. The range of each population root shallow-distribution is differentamong the course of degenerating succession.
