The effect of seed film coating with 4 plant growth retardants (Paclobutrazol, Chlorocholine chloride, Mepiquat chloride and Daminozid ) on seedling overgrowth and quality, 6 disinfectants on seedling damping-off and drooping and plant growth retardants and disinfectants on disease control and cultivation of high quality seedling were studied with tomato cv. Nongcheng"908". Meantime, the effect of seed coated with PP333 on the resistance of low temperature was studied. The results were as follows:1. Seed coated with different retardant and concentration had different effect on tomato seedlings. PP333, PIX and CCC coating can effectively control seedling overgrowth and gradually lower stem height with the increase of coated concentration. The seedling stem width, fresh and dry weight, root vigor, proline content and quality index were increased and the conductivity and MDA content were lowered with seed coating with proper concentration of PP333 which was 150~300mg/L. Else, PP333 coating can strengthen tomato seedling resistance to low temperature. B9 coating had no effect on the control of stem overgrowth.2. Seed coated with CuSO4 and Sandofan had higher survival rate, lower death rate and good effect on the control of damping-off and drooping in 6 disinfectants coating contrasted to the control. The else had no remarkable influence. But Sandofan delayed the average time of germination and emergence.3. The seeds were separately coated with PP333+CuSO4 and PP333+Sandofan. The result showed that the former can effectively control seedling overgrowth and damping-off and drooping and high quality seedlings were cultivated. But the later lowered tomato emergence rate and survival rate.4. The best combination to control tomato seedling overgrowth, damping-off and drooping and cultivate high quality seedling was PP333 (150~300mg/L) +CuSO4 (5%).
