Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA) and Sai lutong on the performance and digestive tract development of weaning piglets. Experiment 1, was performed to test the separatedly effects of GABA and Sai lutong on weaning piglets'performance. 27 piglets (Yorkshire×Landrace)weaned at 28d age were randomly allocated to 3 treatment groups, 3 pens per group and 3 piglets per pen. In all treatments, piglets were fed the corn and soybean meal-based diets supplemented with 0, 20mg/kgGABA, 20mg/kg Sai lutong. This experiment lasted 2 weeks. Experiment 2, was conducted to test the effect of different combination levels of GABA and Sai lutong on weaning piglets performance and digestive tract. Two factors and three levels 3×3 comprehensive test experiment design was used. There were ten treatments in the experiment in all, nine treatments and a control, which was fed the base diet. 40 DLY(DUROC×LANDRANCE×YORKSHIRE) piglets weaned at 28d age were randomly allocated to 10 treatments, 4 pens per group and 2piglets per pen. Three dosage levels of GABA and Sai lutong were 10, 20, 50mg/kg, and 10, 20, 40mg/kg, respectively. The experiment lasted 4 weeks.The results showed that: (1)GABA and Sai lutong could improve the performance of weaning piglets, respectively. The addition of 20mg/kg GABA increased the average daily feed intake 0.52%,7.8% and 4.8% of piglets in the first 7 days,the second 7 days and the whole experiment period compared to that of the control, respectively(P>0.05), and the average daily gain was increased by 9.9%,7.8% and 7.9%(P>0.05), respectively. The addition of 20mg/kg Sai lutong increased the average daily feed intake 5.3%,10.1%and 8.1%(P>0.05) of piglets in the first 7 days,the second 7 days and the whole experiment period compared to that of the control respectively(P>0.05), and the average daily gain was increased by 1.7%,23.2% and 12.8%(P>0.05), respectively. Except for the GABA treatment on 0-7 day, the feed conversion ratio was lower than the control, others were higher than the control(P>0.05). The effect of GABA was better than Sai lutong.(2) GABA and Sai lutong could improve the performance of weaning piglets synergetically. The average daily gain of piglets decreased while the dosage of GABA increased, the function of improving ADG of Sai lutong had cloes correlation with the levels of GABA. The three groups: GABA+Sai lutong (10mg/kg+10mg/kg),GABA+Sai lutong (20mg/kg+40mg/kg),GABA+Sai lutong (50mg/kg+20mg/kg) improved piglets ADG significantly on 0-14 day(P<0.05), synergetically, the improved figure was 8.36%,12.4% and 10.71% (P<0.05) compared with the control, while otherexperiment phases had no marked effect, and on 15~28 and 0~28 day, GABA+Sai lutong (20mg/kg+10mg/kg) improved piglet ADG 11.11% and 4.82%, respectively.The ADFI decreased while the dosage of GABA and Sai lutong increased, on 0~14day, GABA+Sai lutong (10mg/kg+10mg/kg) improved piglet ADFI by 5.12%, Compared to the control(P>0.05), which was the best of it. On 15-28 and 0-28 day, GABA+Sai lutong (20mg/kg+10mg/kg) group respectively improved piglet ADFI 12.03% and 9.52%(P>0.05), compared to the control. The protein apparent digestibility was increased significantly by the combination of GABA and Sai lutong(P<0.05), and the figure increased while the dosage of Sai lutong increased. The combination of GABA+Sai lutong(50mg/kg+40mg/kg) group and (20mg/kg+40mg/kg) group had higher protein digestibility than others, increased by 3.7 and 3.1% (P<0.05) respectively, compared with the control. The contribution ratio of GABA and Sai lutong were 61.7 and 38.3%.(3) The concentration of plasma gastrin could be significantly influenced by GABA and Sai lutong synergetically in the 28th day (P<0.05). the concentration of plasma gastrin increasingly decreased while the dosage of GABA and Sai lutong increased。GABA+Sai Iutong (10mg/kg+10mg/kg) group was the best, had increased the concentration of plasma gastrin by 14.02% in the 14th day, and 9.2% in the 28th day (P<0.05) compared with the control.(4) The index of sinus ventriculi and spleen, and the height of duodenum and jejunum villi were markedly increased by GABA and Sai lutong synergetically (P<0.01); but there was a trend to increase the index of stomach and pancrea (P>0.05). GABA and Sai lutong could synergetically increase the depth of duodenumn and jejunum villus, and decreased the depth of duodenumn and jejunum crept (P<0.05);.In conclusion, GABA and Sai lutong could increased piglets average daily feed intake and daily gain, lonely and synergetically. Protein apparent digestibility, the concentration of plasma gastrin could be significantly improved by GABA and Sai lutong, and the development of the small intestinal and the digestive tract was improved as well.
