The methods of questionnaires, ground investigation in daylight and spotlight survey during the night were used to study the population size and habitat status of the wild Chinese alligators, and radio telemetry was applied to track the reintroduced Chinese alligators in this research. The results showed that the current wild population of the Chinese alligator was less than 120 individuals.Combined the surveys in the field over the years, the author analyzed the factors affecting the population of Chinese alligator, and put forward the suggestions for the conservation of alligators based on the analyses. The monitoring results showed that the released alligators gained a steady activity area though about 1 week, however,it would change in different period. There was also a large overlapped area among them, and they hadn't shown significant territory characteristics. There were no significant differences of the daily activity area between different gender and weight.By the way, data of some egg characteristics were collected from total 1460 eggs of 40 nests in the Anhui Research Center for Chinese Alligator Reproduction(ARCCAR),which were analyzed with the software SPSS.The results showed that the mean clutch size was 36.5±6.2,mean egg mass of each clutch was 41.9±5.1g,and mean clutch grass mass was 1519.7±266.7g.Partial correlation analysis suggested that egg length is significantly positively linear correlated with egg mass(r=0.875,P<0.001),egg width is significantly positively linearly correlated with egg mass(r=0.856,P<0.001); and egg width is negatively correlated with egg length(r=-0.638,P<0.001).The author also established 3 regression equations about the relationships among egg length, egg width and egg mass in order to estimate the original weight of the eggs. They are(1)W=-29.855+1.265X_L(R~2=0.681,P<0.001,df=1443);(2)W=-53.078+2.699X_W(R~2=0.637,P<0.001,df=1443);(3)W=1.656+0.00057X_LX_W~2 (R~2=0.928,P<0.001,df=1443),respectively.
