Rhizoma Pinelliae from Jingzhou is regarded as the top grade and named Jingban xia in the domain of medicine because its white color firm texture and enough powder. Also it becomes famous all over the word. Morphology and leaf epidermis characteristics have been found among different varieties. Techniques of XRF and HPLC-FPS have been used to find the comparabilities and differences among different varieties in order to surplied some references to the breeding of Jingbanxia.Major research results are as follows:1 Mothers are all trifoliate with tow bulbis. Each has three kinds of offspring. They are trifoliate, unifolia with auriform edge and unifolia with regular edge. And no bulbi has been found on each offspring. These are found by studying a number of morphology markers of mother rame and filial generation of different varieties of Jingbanxia which were analyzed in math ways.2 By analysing the correlation between quantitative characters. The results show that length of leaf and leafstalk is negative correlatived with weight of bulbi; width of leaf is positive correlatived with the angle of leaf. There are remarkably positive corelation among leaf ratio of leaf length and width, dia of bulbi, weight of bulbi and density of bulbi.3 With the help of factor analysis, ten indices were induced tow factor and factor cluster analys is classified tow clusters.4 On the basis of research of leaf epidermis characteristics, most epidermis cells are found to be similar. Stomas randomly spread among irregular epidermis cells. Epidermis cells and long axis of guard cells tend towards the same direction of venation. Two to four epidermis cells can be found along the guard cells of stoma with its short axis parallel with the long axis of guard cells. Venation cells are narrow, where no stoma can be found.5 By the way of factor analysis, nine indices were induced three factors and factor cluster analys is classified tow clusters.6 By the difference analysis of principal epidermis characteristic, Stomatal parameters has not been found remarkable various between mothers and ofsprings, but the epidermal cell number has the remarkable difference.7 Eighteen microelements have been detected among four varieties of Jiangbanxia. They are K, Ca, Cl, S, P, Mg, Na, Si, Al, Fe, Zn, Mn, Sr, Cu, Cr, Ni, Se and Ti. Ti is only to be found in tuber. Se is not found in leaf. And this can reseponse the differences on the level of metabolizabilit and efficacy.8 By the analysis of HPLC-FPS technique, chemical component is found to be parallel among different varieties. But the quantity is diverse especially EY.
