As the core and mirror of the agricultural information research, crop system simulation model, crop management expert system and other key technologies such as 3S (Geography information system (GIS), Remote sensing (RS), Global position system (GPS)) play an important role on agriculture informationization. Guided by system engineering theory, the basic theories and methods of agriculture, ecology, GIS, environmental science, statistics science and computer science were used synthetically. Based on the aims and requests of the system design, and by gathering and analyzing the characters of agricultural data, we build the agricultural database which consist of spatial and attribute data. By coupling with the 3S technologies, growth simulation model and management knowledge model in wheat, the synthetic wheat farming support system is developed, which provides a technology platform for modernization and informationization of agriculture production management.Aim at the trait that agricultural production is influenced by many factors such as climate, soil and economical investment, a B/S mode-based digital wheat farming system was developed based on the guidance of system engineering idea and by coupling with the wheat growth simulation model, management knowledge model and 3S technologies. The system adopted four layers B/S model which contains browse layer, Web services layer, applied logical layer and database layer. In the system, the WebGIS of Supermap IS.NET 5.2 was applied, database was designed with SQL Server 2000, models were programmed with ASP.NET and according to COM standard. The system can provide scientific decision support for farmer, agronomist and researcher on fanning zoning, cultivation strategy design, growth simulation, dynamic regulation and production analysis in wheat crop.Case study and testing of the system were carried out with the data from eco-sites of Jiangsu province and eastern area of China. The result indicated that the design idea and structure framework of system met the development demand of modern agricultural decision support system. Compared with those former decision support systems for crop management, this system has several good characteristics. First, at the point of function, it could dynamically design cultivation strategy, simulate the process of wheat growth and development, make analysis on production level and offer information service through whole growth period. Secondly, at the point of structure, the system warrants user different authority to ensure the safety of data. Four layers of B/S structure are convenient to maintain the system. In addition, the user can operate the system easily and doesn't need to download any plug-ins or Active-X.
