Recently, requirements of new luffa cultivars have been increasing gradually with increasing of luffa cultivation area year by year. Yet the work on luffa breeding carried out relatively late, which had few research on basic breeding theory, heterosis, genetic effect and correlation analysis of luffa are based on L.cylindrica Roem. and L.acutangula Roxb. respectively, and Interspecific hybridization compatibility and its heterosis had few research. The purpose of this experiment is to estimate the interspecific hybridization compatibility, the growth potential and analysis of genetic effect on main agronomic traits of interspecific hybrid. The aim was to supply theoretical guide to luffa breeding, therefore it has definite meanings for guiding practice. This experiment selected two parents from L.acutangula Roxb. and four parents from Lcylindrica Roem. which were representative in main agronomic traits and got 30 F1 hybrids via diallel cross design. The results have estimated interspecific hybridization compatibility and the growth potential of interspecific hybrid. The results got by investigation and statistics analysis on 16 traits in field and laboratory are as follows:1. In growth term of summer, the pollen vigor of luffa did not reduce significantly after the different storage time between 9H-15H, and the pollen can finish interspecific hybridization pollination however.2. The result showed that we can draw a conclusion that interspecific hybridization compatibility was universally high, except individual cross. The interspecific hybrids had grown more strongly than parents in seedling and not existed physiological uncompatibility.3. the comparison analysis of the reciprocal hybrid F1 and parent plants showed that the pollen stainability percentage were significantly lower than parents, and appeared a mass of abnormal or sterile pollen; all interspecific hybrids were different from their parents in agronomic characters. The above results proved the reciprocal hybrid F1 were true hybrids, we also have testified by POD isozyme page.4. The analysis of genetic effect on main agronomic traits of interspecific hybrid indicated that the majority hybridï¿¥\ performed heterosis obviously in nutritional growth such as growth potential, node length, diameter, leaf length, leaf width. The analysis of heritability showed that parents performed strongly relative heritability in first note of female flower, but not in first note of male flower. The content of photosynthesis pigment in L.acutangula Roxb. was more than in L.cylindrica Roem. partial crosses F1 performed heterosis of photosynthesis pigment (Ca, Cb , Cx.c). All hybrids F1 showed negative heterosis in the content of soluble protein; in the content of soluble sugars, hybrid F1 showed positive heterosis, except the reciprocal hybrid between parent A and B. Analysis of variance of of reciprocal interspecific hybridizations on fruit quality characters did not achieve significantly.
