Experiments were conducted to study effects of numbers of remained leaves, harvesting maturity and curing schedule on the economic characteristics and chemical constituents in curing upper leaves with stem of flue-cured tobacco. The results were as follows:1. The effects of the numbers of remained leaves on the economic characteristics and chemical constituents in curing upper leaves with stem of flue-cured tobacco were studied. The results showed that the quality of cured leaves keeping 4 or 6 leaves with stem was better than that of keeping 8 or 10 leaves with stem, and keeping 6 leaves with stem was the best.2. The effects of maturity on the economic characteristics and chemical constituents in curing upper leaves with stem of flue-cured tobacco were studied. The results showed that the quality of cured leaves which top 2 leaves were mature and other leaves were ripe was better than that which bottom 2 leaves were ripe and other leaves were mature.3. The effects of the curing schedule on the economic characteristics and chemical constituents in curing upper leaves with stem of flue-cured tobacco were also studied. The results showed that the quality of cured leaves by four stage curing schedule was better than that by three stage curing schedule, because increasing a wither stage, so the reducing sugar content and total sugar content of cured leaves were increased, while starch content, protein content were reduced.
