This paper reported the chromosome numbers and karyotype of two species inGalega L..Sixteen germplasm resources materials were investigated by using root tip squashed method .The results showed that the chromosome numbers of different materials were constant .The chromosome numbers of all materials were 2n=16 .Acc- ording to the karyotype ,we considered chromosome basic number as X=8,but the materials differed in the Karyotype formula, type , As. K%. Though there were bigger differences between materials , the chromosomes of ten materials in Galega orientalis Lam.and six materials in Galega officinalis Linn. were nearly median and submedia- n .The karyotype belonged to Stebbins 1A ,2A,1B,2B,which were relatively original or old .It seemed that the biogeographical and bioclimatical conditions of the environment of origin would have an influence on the chromosome morphology, then it leaded to genetic diversity in cell level .Sixteen germplasm resources materials were investigated by using Giemsa-C methods . The results showed that the C-banding of different materials were diverse. But all the sixteen germplasm resources materials have centromeric band. The types of heterochromatin were I, II, III. There was not the phenomenon that the heterochromatin was entire chromosome or the whole arm.Although the Galega has band diversity in cell level, they have the common traits. To study the palynology of Galega L., the pollen morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The meiosis process of pollen mother cells was observed by 1% acetate magenta squashing method. The results showed that the pollen grains were subsphaeroidal or oblate , tricolporate. Exine was observed as the categories of pitted and reticulate. Pollen was triangular-obtuse in polar view, rotundity in equatorial view. The pollen size is P×E=14.3(13.5~15.0)×12.6(12.1~13.7)μm and P×E=13.7(12.3~14.8)×12.4(10.6~13.0)μm for Galega orientalis Lam. and Galega officinalis Linn. respectively. The meiosis in Galega undergoes simultaneity cytokinesis. There were 8 bivalents appearing at the stage of diakinesis and there is no unpaired chromosomes or micronuclei. The microspores in tetrad stage showed tetrahedron structure. The meiosis of the pollen mother cells were closely related to the colors and size of buds. The same in stages of meiosis existed among the same bud. There were different division phases simultaneously observed in the same anthers.
