Study On Herb Species And Application In Shanghai Area

Herb is a kind of plant which have the attribute both of medicinal plant and aromatic plant. Their flowers, leaves, stems, seeds, fruits and the generated essential oil can be part or even all used in cuisine, tea, floriculture, craftwork, heath care, flavors, coloration, medicine and gardening etc. Since the 1990s, there used to cultivate herb to aromatize environment and purify the air.The species of herbs are greatly rich in the world, more than 3000, most of them are originated in the Mediterranean coastal countries. Nowadays many kinds of herbs are supplied in shanghai. However, they have not been studied and classified systemically, even some of their names are confused because of commercial name and local name. So this paper dwells on the classification and application of herbs. The main results are as follows:1. 20-plus familiar immigrated herbs were introduced in Shanghai, and their main cultivars and varieties and their characters were investigated in the present study.2. On the aspect of application, the application of herbs into gardening and horticulture was described. The distribution of plants in environment for herbs, the particular gardens for herbs, the potted plants made by herbs, the parterres and the gardens for edible herbs, were discussed. Besides, the other application of herbs such as health care, drinking, cuisine, bathing and so on was introduced as well.3. Based on the research, several pieces of suggestions were proposed for the development of aromatization industry of China. First, with the guideline of market and the principle of planting, the herbs suitable for our country should be selected and put into application. Second, take science and technology as to rely on, business enterprise for group leader, study on the components and utilities of herbs and develop products extracted form them to increase the additional value of herbs. Third, in view of the agriculture, establishment of recreational gardens of herbs combining with sightseeing and recreation to promote the development of agriculture and recreational tourist industry. At last, the complicated utilization which can bring about more great economical, ecological and social benefit should be focoused by exploration and application. Strenthen the comprehensive development of herbs, grow aromatization industry of having the special features.The investigation shows that herbs are a kind of potential plants with wide ranges of utilities in view and admire, cuisine, health care, vegetation etc. By demonstration and popularization, it will present extensive impact on the restructuring of agriculture and benefiting the peasants.
