This study is subsidized by the China National High-Tech Program(863 Program)(2006AA10Z217).The study determined and analyzed the chemical elements in the body of Brown plant hoppers(Nilaparvata lugens(Stal))from different geographical regions,and ascertaind the character elements geographically using correspondence analysis and multidimensional unfolding.Brown plant hopper is a long-distance migratory insect feeding on rice plants in Asia,and is also the most serious insect on rice in China,threatening the growth of rice badly.The study determined and analyzed the elements in the body of the insect and aimed to help to ascertain the migratory route of it.Followings are the main results of this study:1.We established a set of methods of sample handling and purification and instrument analysis for biological samplesInductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry(ICP-MS)is the best method for determination of various elements simultaneous.It combined the characters of ionization under high temperature of inductively coupled plasma and sensitive quick scan of quadrupole mass spectrometer by its unique interface technology to form a new type of element analysis technology.This technology can provide a very low determination limit,a very wide range of dynamic linear,simple lines,less interference,high-precision and fast analysis and isotopic information,and so on.In this study,it detected 40 kinds of chemical elements in the body of brown plant hopper and the contents of these elements were from 0.01/μg/g to 670.00μtg/g.2.We tested the element contents in the body of brown plant hopper from different regions and it showed there are 27 elements of which the differences are significant statistically(by ANOVA of General Liner Mode,p=0.05).3.We practiced data mining to the results of determination for elements with geographical characteristics by the use of correspondence analysis and multidimensional unfolding.Correspondence analysis is an effective solution to the problem that takes both samples and variables to account.Its diagramed result is easy to be understood.Multidimensional unfolding is a similar method with correspondence,except for the nonlinear method in its computing process.We practiced correspondence analysis and multidimensional unfolding to the various sets with different elements which are chose from the elements with significant difference in the order of p-value from small to large,aiming to determine the relationship between elements and areas.In this study,we researched six sets each with five elements,six elements,seven elements,eight elements,nine elements and ten elements using correspondence analysis and multidimensional unfolding. Multidimensional unfolding is a better way than correspondence analysis in general, and among the results of multidimensional unfolding,the sets with seven elements and nine elements are the better options.At the end,we introduced three correlation analysis methods,Pearson Correlation,Poly-serial Correlation and Spearman Rank Correlation,and also the methods of parameter estimation and statistical test of each correlation analysis.We demonstrated the application of the poly-serial correlation coefficient and Spearman rank correlation coefficient with two practical examples.
