Developing the new breeding stock and improving the genetic selecting progress are the hinges of the development of the enhancement program for Chinese shrimp (Fenneropenaeus chinensis).Morphological markers are the traditional markers that have been extensively used for a long time for their facility and identifiability. The selected fast-growth population of shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis had been examined and approved by China National Aquaculture Variety Approval Committee as a new variety for aquaculture and named as"Huanghai No.1"in 2004. Researches have been carried out to study the variance of genetic diversity of the new variety, however, no elaborate analysis of morphologic characters of the new variety was conducted. In this paper, the thirteen quantitative traits of the shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis named"Huanghai No. 1"were tested. By correlation and path analysis, the result showed that the body length had significant positive correlation with the other quantitative traits. The multiple regression equation obtained to estimate body weight as:y=-79.269+0.840x1+17.725x2+3.510x3+3.713x4+7.442x5.It was clear that the length of the carapace gave predominant direct effect and determinacy on the body weight,it is the key effective factor. This paper provides theoretical evidence and perfect measure target for breeding of Fenneropenaeus chinensis. shrimp. In the study of the AFLP system optimization and cluster analysis, improvements were made in PCR system for Fenneropenaeus chinensis. shrimp, including the selection of primers and the improved parameters in PCR reaction. The improved system proved to be stable, rapid and sensitive. Eleven primer sets were used to investigate the DNA of marine shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis selected for fast growth. Results indicated that AFLPs showed high efficiency of detecting polymorphism. More than 700 bands were generated with 11primer sets. In average, each primer set detected 20.8 polymorphic markers. Associations of individual marker alleles with the body weight was analyzed. Three of the AFLP loci had significant effect on the body length. Identification of a large number of DNA markers linked to QTL will contribute to the application of DNA marker-assisted selection in aquaculture breeding of Fenneropenaeus chinensis.
