Studies On Distribution And Management Of Chinese Mangrove Forests

Mangroves are peculiar advanced plant in tropical, subtropical tidal zone. They are evergreen threes or bushes. There are about 24 family 83 species mangroves in the world and 20 family 37 species in China (Lin Peng, Fu Qin, 1995). Because of the special living environment, mangroves have unique growth characteristics. They not merely can prevent wind, wave, protect dike and purify the environment, but also have high economic value. Some species can provide wood, edible weeds and fruits, and some have medicine or industry value. Mangroves have the name of'forest in the ocean'attributing to the strange shape they have and beautiful scenery when they stand in the ocean and become precious tourism resources.Mangroves in China distribut as protective belts along the south and eastern coast of at least five provinces: Hainan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian and Zhejiang. The economic function of these mangrove forests is the sources of income for local community especially from aquaculture. Increasing demand for mangrove forest due to population and economic increase has caused the remaining mangrove forests are now under serious threat. Therefore, the project intervention is urgently required. This paper summarizes wetlands research progress home and abroad shortly, and puts emphasis on the mangroves research. Domestic mangroves research focus on three main aspects: ecosystem, forestation and restoration and mangroves value. Research on mangroves management is involved a little in forms of papers which are about mangroves protection countermeasure in all parts of the country. And there is no systematic management research on the mangroves countrywide. Investigat the demonstration plot Zhangjiangkou mangrove nature reserve in Fujian in the methods of common foresty investigation, and collect economic data of local community through the questionnaires. Collect the information and material of other mangrove districts through the internet, library, and forestry departments, etc. With calculating and analyzing, this paper puts forward Chinese mangroves distribution division. According to the character that mangroves distribution is limited by the temperature, mangroves in China are divided into 5 sections: Chinese man-made mangrove forests distribution zone; Chinese natural mangrove forests northernmost distribution zone; Pearl River mouth distribution zone (regions having relative flourishing economics); distribution regions with close latitude; Chinese natural mangrove forests southernmost distribution zone. This paper puts forward mangrove management countermeasure based on the character of each distribution zone. Through the investigation of Fujian Zhangjiangkou mangrove nature reserve, problems in the management of mangroves have been put forward in the form of a problem tree, stakeholders of mangroves in China have been analyzed and management countermeasure has been given.
