In order to elucidate the senescent traits of stay green wheat, the studies were conducted combining the field investigation and analysis in the lab by using physiological and biochemical methods. Leaf senescence related to water content, carbon assimilation and distribution, nitrogen assimilation and distribution and dry matter assimilation and distribution. The experimentation indicate the senescent traits of leaf and carbon and nitrogen assimilation in stay green wheat. The main results are as follows;1. The green leaf number and green leaf area changing after anthesis were simulated by Logistic equation. According to Hierarchical′s classify method, based on the green leaf number , green leaf area in physiological maturity , the day of beginning to senescence and the day of ending to senescence. The ten varieties of wheat were classified into two analogs: one was stay green type, another was non stay green type. YuMai 66 is a type of stay green, its green leaf number is 16.45%, green leaf area is 15.38% in physiological maturity.2. The grain filling was simulated by Logistic equation, according to the parameters, the grain filling rate of stay green wheat is higher. The path analysis indicate the effect on grain wheat is that grain filling rate is more important than grain filling period . So the reason of higher grain wheat in stay green type is the higher grain filling rate.3. There was higher chlorophyll content and lower MDA content of stay green type in grain filling period, the chlorophyll content is higher 16.8% than the control at 30 days after anthesis, the photosynthesis period was prolonged by the higher chlorophyll content. The senescence was delayed by the higher water content of leaf in stay green type.4. The soluble sugar content of leaf and stem in stay green type is higher than non stay green type, the transporting rate of NSC is lower before and after anthesis. The nitrogen content in plant of stay green type is higher, the nitrogen transporting rate is higher before anthesis and lower after anthesis. Its indicate that the nitrogen transportion concentrates before anthesis. The senescence of stay green type was delayed by the higher nitrogen content of leaf and stem.5. There is no significant differences between the stay green type and non stay green type in carbon/nitrogen of leaf and grain, but the carbon/nitrogen of stem is fluctuating. The ratio of source/sink is higher and the transporting rate is lower after in stay green type.6. There were higher grain weight ,biomass and single plant yield,so the potential of enhance yield is high..
