Objective: To study and compare the quality of Flos Lonicerae Japonicae among different germplasms produced in Shandong province. It includes the morphological characters of plants and medicinal materials, the yield of the first alabastrums harvest and the content of active constituents. And the HPLC fingerprints of Flos Lonicerae Japonicae among germplasms were also established to compare their differences. The data were collected and accumulated for identification of the germplasms, screening of good germplasms and improvement of the medicine's yield and quality. Methods: The plant morphology and classic systematics methods were adopted to study the plants'morphological characters. The medicinal materials characters and yield of different germplasms were researched by means of resource investagation and character identification. The contents of chlorogenic acid and galuteolin were measured by the method of HPLC. The fingerprints of Flos Lonicerae Japonicae were established by the method of HPLC. The results of ten different germplasm in Flos Lonicerae Japonicae were compared. Results: Great variance of the plants of morphological characters, the yield of the first harvest, the weight of the alabastrums, the contents of chlorogenic acid and galuteolin among the ten germplasms were existed. Differences were existed in the HPLC fingerprint of different germplasm rescources of Flos Lonicerae Japonicae. Initial macroscopic and inherent quality criteria of good germplasm of Flos Lonicerae Japonicae were formulated according to the research result. Conclusions: The research results provide theoretical evidence and data for identification, division and screening of good germplasms among the ten traditional different germplasms. Three traditional germplasms which fit for planting in shandong and breeding for good germplasms were primarily screened with the initial quality criteria. One germplasm of poor quality was suggested to reject.
