Impeller blowers are used widely in all types of agricultural machinery ,such as shredders, rubbing machines and so on , because of their simplicity, reliability and low manufacturing cost. At present, they have some negative problems of stock cutting and loading in the materials blowing process. Impeller blowers depends on the high-speed rotating paddles to convey materials. The factors ,which mainly influence the power consumption and decide whether materials are thrown out smoothly, were the air flow caused by the high-speed rotating impeller. Therefore, the analysis of the air flow can give theoretical basis to the design and improvement of turbomachine. In this paper, the air flow field was analyzed by means of using FLUENT numerical simulation and experimenting, and the basic characteristics about the air flow field were gained. Comparing simulation results with experimental ones, it showed that the mathematical model was able to accurately simulate the actual air velocities. Moreover, study results showed that the air flow pattern would affect the blowing efficiency and power consumption, and the higher the rotational speed of the impeller was, the higher the air flow velocity at a plane of the straw-threw distance was. According to the experiment of throwing distance and power consumption at different rotational speeds and paddle's angels, the paper drew the conclusions that as the backward angel of paddle was 3°, the throwing distance was the farthest and the power consumption of radial paddle was the lowest.
