Hetao irrigation district is one of largest irrigation district in our country, the important industrial base for high-quality green agriculture of China, the largest artificial oasis in arid and semi-arid northwest China. Since the founding of New China, with the continuous development of irrigation area, the various production sectors accumulation a lot of soil and water resources data, More than 50 years, in the accumulation and research of these data irrigation district has been made a lot of achievement. However, due to the lack of systematic and scientific methods of data management and sharing brought a great deal of inconvenience in the use and further analysis for the data. Therefore, how to adopt modern methods of management of water and soil resources information in Hetao irrigation district is a matter of urgency, GIS technology provide techniques for the demand.Established the geospatial database of water and soil resources data in the Hetao irrigation district based on the ArcGIS9.2 platform, supports some advanced function such as data searching and analyzing. It also can be used to carry out some spatial analysis such as geostatistics analysis. By this database can provide necessary data about water and soil resources data to agriculture production, hydraulic engineering construction and science research. So, it is very useful in the irrigation district management.Some preliminary results as follows:(1) Established the geospatial database of water and soil resources data in the Hetao irrigation district based on the ArcGIS9.2 platform, the database can provide the Scientific method for data management, Store and update.(2) The spatial and attribute data of water and soil resource were organized using Geodatabase technology to realize it dynamic management based on the requirements of standardization and regularization.(3) Using ArcGIS Engine based on Visual C# platform make the secondary development of ArcGIS. It has provided a series of geospatial data management functions, for example, database building, exchanging, topology examining, querying , statistic, data drawing, cartography and analyzing. It's a dynamic management and service platform of massive geospatial data.(4) The database can be used to carry out some spatial analysis such as geostatistics analysis, buffer analysis, net analysis and so on. It also can carry out 3D analysis for some data that have 3D attributes.(5) By using the database can achieve the information sharing, made a variety of water and soil resources data in the Hetao irrigation district to form a complete system, bring convenience to the use of this data.
