The Lonicera L.is one important genus of the Caprifoliaceae, being famous for rich in ornamental, high medicinal purposes value and the health care value. In the article, a study was developed on Lonicera tatarica L. and Lonicera maackii Maxim. by observing some physiological and biochemical indices. The results could be used to evaluate the drought resistance ability, give a guide for Lonicera tatarica L. introduction. Some drought-resisting indices were observed in the condition of controlling water supply artificially on potted planting Lonicera L., the results as follows.1. Under water stress, the soil water content was gradually decreasing. The trend of the decrease were not significantly different. This shows that various tree species suffered basically the consistent intensity of drought stress, and the change of physiological and biochemical indices is itself associated with various tree species to ensure that the identity of the drought conditions and various tree species differences in the reliability analysis.2. Under water stress, leaf water content was gradually decreased with the drought stressed days increasing. In the stressed period, the decrease of Lonicera maackii Maxim.'s leaf water content was more than that of Lonicera tatarica L..3. Leaf relative water content was decreased with the drought stressed days increasing. The change of water saturation deficiency was the other around, unlikely the change of relative water content. Lonicera tatarica L.'s leaf relative water content was more than that of Lonicera maackii Maxim., and Lonicera tatarica L.'s water saturation deficiency was less than that of Lonicera maackii Maxim.. During the stressed period, leaf relative water content of Lonicera maackii Maxim. decreased more, and its water saturation deficiency increase significantly. Two kinds of shrubs leaf relative water content and water saturation deficit early in the drought stress, no significant difference (p> 0.05), but with the increase of drought stress, reached a very significant difference (p <0.01).4. Relative electricity conductivity and the content of MDA increased along with the increment of water stress. The increase of Lonicera maackii Maxim.'s relative electricity conductivity and MDA content were greater than that of Lonicera tatarica L..5. The chlorophyll content in two kinds of shrubs descend with drought deepen. The decrease of Lonicera tatarica L.'s chlorophyll content was less than that of Lonicera maackii Maxim..6. The activity of SOD and POD increased firstly under water stress, reached the climax on the fifteenth day after stressed, then decreased. The activity of SOD and POD of Lonicera tatarica L. were higher than that of Lonicera maackii Maxim..7. It is considered that two species in Lonicera L.are both plant having strong drought resistance ability, the drought resistance ability of Lonicera tatarica L. is stronger than Lonicera maackii Maxim., by analyzing results of main component analysis and comprehensive appraisal of all indices. But their mechanism of drought resistance is similar.
