Kentucky bluegrass(Poa pratensis L.) was the most important species to build city green turf in northern China. However because of its slow emergence and high vulnerability against weeds, using direct seeding methods to establish the lawn is not easy. Particularly in the shade place, it was more difficult to built single sowing turf of Kentucky bluegrass. The emergence quick and strong shade-tolerant Red fescue (Festuca rubra L.) was selected for the mixed sowing experiment with Kentucky bluegrass in different seeding rate under shade and no-shade conditions. The single turf of Kentucky bluegrass and Red fescue were used as control treatments. The inter-species competition and community stability of mix-sowing turf were studied. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was used, and seven indexes which concluded the aboveground biomass, underground biomass, density, texture, leaf-color, coverage, uniformity were used. The comprehensive quality of the turf was evaluated when it was established in the first year and in the second year, and the best sowing quantity and proportion of mix-sowing were explored under different shade conditions. Mix-sowing programs of suitable cold-arid areas of northern China were sought. The result showed that the treatment of 9g/m2 Kentucky bluegrass + 7.5g/m2 Red fescue was the best performance under no shade condition; The treatment of 3g/m2 Kentucky bluegrass + 22.5g/m2 Red fescue was the best performance under shade condition. Through components ratio analyses of Kentucky bluegrass and Red fescue aboveground biomass in the third year of the establishing lawn, we knew that Kentucky bluegrass and Red fescue would be possible to stable coexistence in treatments of 9g/m2 Kentucky bluegrass + 7.5g/m2 Red fescue and 6g/m2 Kentucky bluegrass + 15g/m2 Red fescue under no shade condition, and the treatment of 3g/m2 Kentucky bluegrass + 22.5g/m2 Red fescue would develop into the turf of Red fescue under no shade condition and under shade condition of different mix-sowing treatments .
