Relationship Among Some Species And Cultivars Of Genus Paeonia

Tree peony and herbaceous peony belonging to Paeonia,Paeoniaceae sect.Moutan and sect.Paeon respectively,are world famous ornamental plants.Distant cross-breeding between sect.Moutan and sect.Paeon iniciated a new field in the breeding of Paeonia.Being considered as " the future of Paeonia",intersectional hybrids of herbaceous peonies×tree peonies,will be the most promising field for the breeding of peonies in the further.Proper parents selection is crucial to distance hybridization, and for which it is greatly required to study the relationship among the species and cultivars or cultivar groups.In this study,we analyzed the relationship of 47 materials in Paeonia,using morphological characters and ISSR fingerprint.The main results obtained were as follows:1.The relationship among 47 materials of Paeonia were studied using 30 morphological characters. R cluster showed the selected characters are reasonable,and can be used for further study.Based on Q cluster and principal coordinate analysis,the 47 materials were diveided into two major categories of three groups:7 materials of sect.Paeon formed a cluster,14 intersection hybrids and 26 materials of sect.Moutan formed another cluster(14 intersection hybrids formed one group and 26 materials of sect.Moutan formed another group ).It indicated the relationship between intersectional hybrids and sect.Moutan were closer.And both of them had distant relationship with sect.Paeon.2.DNA fingerprint of the 47 materials were analyzed using optimized ISSR-PCR system.Based on cluster analysis and principal coordinate analysis,the 47 materials were diveided into two major categories of three groups:7 materials of sect.Paeon,14 intersection hybrids,tree peony 'L'Esperance', 'H(?)ki' formed a cluster(7 materials of sect.Paeon formed one group;14 intersectional hybrids and tree peony 'L'Esperance','H(?)ki' formed another group).It indicated intersectional hybrids have relativly close relationship with sect.Paeon.3.Relationship among the 47 materials based on morphological analysis were not coincided with the results of ISSR marker.Morphological studies indicated intersectional hybrids were relatively close to sect.Moutan,while ISSR marker showed they were more related to sect.Paeon.Under the combination analysis of these two methods,it was confirmed that intersectional hybrids were hybrids between sect.Paeon and sect.Moutan.In order to further explore the position of intersectional hybrids, other molecular markers and DNA sequencing technology will be needed in the further.
