Different combinations of 3 species of propionic acid-forming bacterium(selenomonas ruminantion,megasphaera elsdenii,veillonella parvula)with 4 species of food saccharomycete[Candida tropicalis(AS2.587),Geotrichum candidum Link(AS2.361),Candida utilis(AS2.281),Pichia pastoris(AS2. 1519)],which were separated from rumen of dairy cow,were compared to select one or more optimal complex bacteria leaven according to acid-produce property and the bacterial generation during fermenting period. Effectiveness and safety of the selected complex bacteria leaven for prevention and treatment of dairy cow periparturent-related diseases such as ketosis,fatty liver and so on were evaluated in the feeding experiment in sheep and dairy cow.The results were as following:Three propionic acid-forming bacteria(selenomonas ruminantion,megasphaera elsdenii,veillonella parvula) which were identified as un-strict anaerobe,survived in under the airproof state,therefore malt culture medium could substitute for professional anaerobic culture medium,simplifying the preparation procedure of complex bacteria leaven and reducing the cost manufacture.Candida tropicalis(AS 2.587),Geotrichum candidum Link(AS 2.361),Candida utilis(AS 2.281),Pichia pastoris(AS 2.1519) could accrete with three propionic acid-forming bacteria,and promote the growth each other.Adding lactic acid to the complex bacteria leaven could promote the growth of each strain.The complex bacteria leaven increased the concentration of propionic acid,and reduced the concentration of acetic acid and butyric acid in rumen of the tested sheep,indicating that complex bacteria leaven could regulate VFA production through microbe fermentation.Any side reaction was not found in dairy cow treated by the complex bacteria leaven, demonstrating that it is a safe and effective microorganism additive.The complex bacteria leaven enhanced the concentration of sugar and depressed the concentration of ketone bodies in serum of periparturent dairy cows and subclinical ketotic cows,suggesting that it was useful to prevention and treatment for bovine ketosis.
