Some plants of Magnolia have eminent ornamental properties and they are suitable for the application of greening cities. There are quite abundant plant resource of Magnolia in China. The plant resource of Magnolia and their application in greening had been more and more popular.In order to exploit native tree specie resource, on the one hand, this paper had made the survey and collection of the plant resource of Magnolia and introduction of the plant of Magnolia. On the other hand, this paper made research on seedling characteristics and resistance of M.amoena. It provided a scientific basis for the introduction of the plant of Magnolia and the application of M.amoena. After experimental study, the main results of the research are as followed:(1) Based on the field survey of the major collection research units and cultivation areas of Magnolia plants, the author had collected 38 specie plants of Magnolia. After observing and recording the biological characteristics and growth characteristics and phenology and ecological adaptation of the collectded plants of Magnolia, this paper recommended 10 species or varieties which had more promoting value.(2) It was the better time to collect seeds of M. amoena in late September; The seed moisture content rate was 9.32%; And the seed viability rate was 89.64%; Seed coat had a certain impact for seed germination of M. amoena; Different storage ways and different storage time had different effection for the seed germination potential and germination rate of M. amoena; The effect for storaging five months using wet sand in ambient temperature was the best; The germination potential was up to 72.1%; The germination rate was up to 81.1%.(3) The examination studied on drought resistance of M. amoena mensurating the changes of the morphological and physiological characteristics of M. amoena and M. denudata and M. soulangeana under drought stress. The drought resistance ability of the three plants of Magnolia was: M. denudata > M. soulangeana > M. amoena; The examination mensurated the changes of the morphological characteristics of M. amoena and M. denudata and M. soulangeana under low temperature of -10℃and -20℃stress in different processing time. The cold resistance ability of the three plants of Magnolia was: M. denudata > M. amoena > M. soulangeana; M. amoena has some drought resistance and cold resistance; And it has high ornamental value and easy way of seed multiplication; Therefore, M. amoena has great application value in the high-latitude and arid or semi-arid region in north and northwest of China.
