Maple is the Aceraceae's general term of Acer.L. With seedlings of ten maple A. cinnamoifolium, A. elegantulum and A. palamatum collected from Nanjing province; A. oliverianum, A. sinense and A. longipes collected from Hunan province; A. pubinerve, A. subsp and A. acutum collected from Hangzhou province as the experimental materials simultaneity compare with A. truncatum witch commonly in Taian area. Two methods that continuous drought stress and gradient water control through potted plant were taken to measure the growth, physiological and biochemical indices of these seedlings and evaluated the drought-resistance of ten seedlings. Thereby the result can provide scientific basis for north city to introduce landscape trees and rich the city's landscape, strengthen the architectural sight of garden city. Accordingly to create a new sight of city look so beautifully. The test results are as the followings. The height growth of seedlings was inhibited under two water-controlling conditions, and the enhancement of drought stress intensity increased degree of inhibition. The biomass production of seedlings appeared a decreasing trend with the declining of content of soil water. The ratio of root to stem was increasing obviously with the enhancement of drought stress intensity. The changing trends in the contents of chlorophyll, carotenoids and the ratio of chlorophylla over chlorophyllb appeared similar under these two stress treatment conditions. Drought stress enhanced the production of carotenoids. Chla was more sensitive to drought than that of chlb.As the intensity of drought stress was enhanced, the contents of proline of all maple seedlings were increased significantly. Under the continuous drought condition, the contents of soluble sugar of all seedlings were obviously increased as the intensity of drought stress was enhanced. Under the different gradient water control condition, the contents of soluble sugar were basically higher than the check group. Under the same water gradient and with the time of drought stress, the increasement of soluble sugar played certain role of osmosis. Under the continuous drought condition, the contents of soluble protein showed a decreasing and then increasing tendency with the time of drought stress. Under the different drought stress the contents of soluble protein slow decline. Under the different gradient water control condition, the seedlings grow in same gradient water control condition showed a decreasing and then increasing tendency with the time of drought stress. The permeability of cell membrane and MDA content of all seedlings showed an increasing tendency with the drought stress was picked up under two water-controlling conditions. This means that the system of cell membrane of seedlings were damaged. And this damage probably was closely related with the peroxidation of cell of membrane grease. Under the drought stress, SOD cooperate with POD can effective clean out the excrescent free radicals of seedlings in vivo.Select succulence index, relative permeability of plasma membrane, malondiadehyde, SOD, POD, soluble sugar, soluble protein, proline and chlorophyll as evaluation index and compared the adaptability of ten seedlings under the drought stress by coordinate composite evaluation. The ability of drought resistant of ten seedlings of maple were in descending order as following: A. truncatum > A. acutum > A. subsp > A. pubinerve > A. longipes > A. oliverianum > A. elegantulum> A. sinense > A. palamatum > A. cinnamoifolium .
