Twenty four adult female Mongolia sheep were randomly allocated two groups with different light control (simulating the illumination condition of breeding season and natural light) in non-breeding season. The expression level of melatonin receptor 1a (MTNR1a) mRNA in the hypothalamus tissue, and pituitary tissue of Mongolia sheep were quantified by semi quantitative RT-PCR. The concentration of MLT,FSH and LH in the sheep's blood with different light conditions were studied. Meanwhile the interaction between light control and some factors concluding the expression of MTNR1a mRNA, concentration of MLT, FSH and LH was analyzed. The results were as followed:1. In non-breeding season, light control could significantly improve ewe's oestrus rate(91.7%)and ovulation effects of test group(90.9%)(P<0.05).2. Light control could significantly improve the MLT concentration in sheep's blood(P<0.05), Light control could improve the FSH and LH concentration in sheep's blood, but there was no significant difference between the test group and the control group(P>0.05).3. In non-breeding season, light control could significantly improve the expression level of MTNR1a mRNA in the hypothalamus tissue(P<0.05).4. The expression level of MTNR1a mRNA in hypothalamus tissue was significantly higher than that in pituitary tissue(P<0.05).5. The cost of light control to induce Mongolia sheep estrus in non-breeding season is low and the effect was very perfect.
