| This paper was a partial content of project of Department of Science and Technology of Liaoning province about the research on Sandyland Synthsis Restore Pattern and Buildup Technology in Liaoning province. There is short of high quality and high yield of alfalfa cultivars in the sandy and semi-drought area of Liaoning northwestward, so it is important to introduce and select new alfalfa varieties, which can adapt to plant in the sandy and semi-drought area of Liaoning northwestward. The botanical character and bioloical speciality and productive characteristics have been comparatively analyzed and evaluated about thirty different alfalfa varieties. The results were shown as follow:There was significant difference in the reviving stage among alfalfa cultivars. The most discrepancy reached twenty two days. The earliest cultivar in reviving was Gannong No. 3, and the follow cultivars were Gongnong No. 1, Aohan, Gannong No. 1. A majority of domestic cultivars revive early than foreign cultivars.In the sandy and semi-drought area of Liaoning northwestward, alfalfa could be harvested twice in the first year and thrice in the second year. Gongnong No. 1 was the best cultivars in the collectivity evaluate about botanical character and bioloical speciality and productive characteristics.In the five selected factors which influence alfalfa's biologic yield, the rate of overwinter and ramification were the major factors, which restrict alfalfa's fresh yield and dry yield, in addition the dry yield is correlated with the number of branches per stem.Adopting alfalfa's biologic yield as the chiefly standard, primary authenticated and selected Gongnong No. 1, Baofeng, Defu, Gannong No. 3, Huangguan etc, which were adapt to be popularized and planted in the sandy and semi-drought area of Liaoning northwestward. And same varieties like Site, Derby, which were difficulty to overwinter, should not be popularized.
