A field experiment was conducted from 2007-2008, in Huazhong Agricultural University to study the effect of phosphorus rate and intercropping of canola and potato on their yield and soil nutrients and canola physiological characters, by adopting Zhongyouza No11 and Nanzhong 552 as the trail materials. The results showed:1 Impact on yieldThe canola yield of T2-l:3-P3 was the maximum. Pods per unit area and 1000-seed weight of intercropping treatments were greater than that of control. But No of seed per pod of intercropping treatments were lower than that of control. Intercropping treatment increased plant height, initial branches, length of main inflorescences and available primary branches, which may play a important role in promoting the seed yield. But the yield of potato, the content of dry matter and starch of control was the maximum.Applying moderate phosphorus fertilizer could increase the yield of canola. With P fertilizer rhizome diameter, length of main inflorescences and available primary branches were enhanced, which could cause to high yield. And it also improved the quality of canola seedlings, ensuring which went through winter safely. No. of green leaf and opening diameter increased with the increasing P fertilizer rate. Rhizome diameter with P was greater than without P. Applying P could increase the yield of potato, but the increment gradually became low with increasing P rate. The effect on the content of dry matter and starch was small.2 Impact on physiological and biochemical index of canolaSoluble sugar content of different planting patterns showed an "M" trend. And the trend of soluble protein content was just being up. For all treatments, there were increments on the content of chlorophyll.Applying P, soluble sugar content increased at first and declined later, then increased again. Soluble protein increased at all stages. The effect of P on soluble protein was not great. There was no significant difference among all those treatments. Chlorophyll content was enhanced by applying P. And chlorophyll content of T6-2:2-P6 and T7-2:2-P9 were always greater than without P at every stage. 3 Impact on nutrient of plant and soilFor different planting patterns, the potassium concentration varies differently. The increment of P, K content of T2-1:3-P3 were both maximum. Applying P fertilizer increased phosphorus concentration of leaves. But the potassium concentration with P was lower than that of control.P fertilizer, to some extent, can increase the available phosphorus content of soil. The available phosphorus content of 0-15 cm depth of soil was higher than that of 15-30cm. And nutrients within 15cm depth are the main nutrient source of plant. Variation of available phosphorus and potassium of 0-15cm depth were both greater than 15-30cm. No matter what treatment it was, the trend of total nitrogen was always being up. But for different treatments, the trend of total phosphorus and potassium was different.
