ObjectiveMidgastric Transverse Band (MTB) has being heatedly discussed since 1883.The stomach is divided into proximal and distal stomach by MTB, which probably concerned with distribution, transport and emptying of food in stomach. MTB may be similar as the atrioventricular valve(AVV) in function and it seems a "gate". The article reviews the Research progress of Midgastric Transverse Band in gastric emptying. In order to discuss the role and mechanism of MTB in gastric emptying, we determined the electrical activity changes of smooth muscle among MTB and near-far spot to fasting and postprandial pigs.MethodsIn single photon emission computed tomography Imager (SPECT), We taged MTB to eight healthy Yorkshire pigs, anesthetized them and opened their abdominal cavity, then respectively sewed four pairs of Ag-AgC1 bipolar electrode in serosa layer of the stomach ventral side:E4 was from the pylorus 2 cm; E3 was located the midpoint of MTB which was marked by rods nuclide; E2 was located at the beginning of peristaltic wave; E1was located at the bottom of the stomach. Finally, the electrical activity in the four parts of smooth muscle was recorded by RM6240B multi-channel physiological signal acquisition and processing instrument before and after meal.ResultsCompared with fasting, the slow-wave frequency of each part increased After meal (P<0.05);Compared with fasting, the spike frequency, spike peak area and spike amplitude was no significant change after meal in E1(P> 0.05); Compared with fasting, the spike frequency, spike peak area and spike amplitude increased after meal in E2 to E4(P <0.05); Similarly, the spike frequency, spike peak area and spike amplitude of same positions also increased after meal compared with fasting (P <0.05). Their change values was a increasing tendency, especially which in E4 was the most remarkable.ConclusionThe electrical activity of MTB after meal increased compared with fasting, which is a transition from proximal to distal stomach and may not be the result of local smooth muscle contration.
