Rice is low iron and zinc food.In recent years, using fertilizer to improve iron and zinc nutrition in rice to enhance human health has long been concerned. The objectives of this investigation were to research the effects of new iron and zinc fertilizer on iron and zinc accumulation in rice grain. Two field experiments were carried out in Zhejiang province. One was in Longyou county in 2008,and the other was in Shaoxing county during 2008 and 2009.The main results are summarized as follows:(1) The total average iron content both in brown and polished rice were increased significantly by 14.47%and 19.46%respectively after spraying foliar Fe(Ⅱ)-AA fertilizer.(2) Iron content of different rice varieties increased differently. The highest increasing rates of iron content in brown and polished rice were 29.62%and 34.62% respectively, both found in rice mutant "Nipponbare".(3) Foliar Fe(Ⅱ)-AA fertilizer could also improve rice quality. The increasing rate of protein content in polished rice ranged from 0.34%~8.46%.(4) There was a significantly positive correlation between iron content in brown rice and polished rice.Correlation coefficient was 0.55(n=48).(5) Spraying new zinc fertilizer Omex-Ⅰ-Zn and Omex-Ⅱ-Zn had greater potential for increasing zinc content in rice in this investigation.Bown rice absorbed 14.01%(2008) and 43.62%(2009) more zinc after spraying Omex-Ⅰ-Zn.After spraying Omex-Ⅱ-Zn,bown rice absorbed 19.99%(2008) and 33.17%(2009) more zinc. They both can also improve protein and amino acid content in rice.(6) The combination of soil and foliar application had greater potential for increasing zinc content in rice.Brown rice can absorb more zinc from 10.57%to 23.11%under soil and foliar application.(7) Five types of new zinc fertilizer in this investigation could increase rice grain yields significantly compared with control, especially K and Zn comfound fertilizer Kali-Zn.
